takahē magazine is a treasure. It’s Aotearoa’s oldest independent literary arts magazine, free from influence of any university or press. takahē has been in continuous publication since 1989 and some of Aotearoa’s brightest creative stars first had work published in takahē. Our heartfelt aim to keep it strong and ensure it flourishes even further.
It’s free to submit work to takahē and free to read it online. Keeping it this way is important to our kaupapa of supporting and uplifting new and established creatives, and ensuring their work reaches the largest possible audience.
Now more than ever, the role of the arts is a crucial way for us to explore and express the complex and sometimes confronting world we share. With your help, we believe there are many more wonderful issues of takahē to be published in the future!
We’re a small and incredibly hardworking team. While our staff get paid a very modest honorarium, the vast majority of the work we do is voluntary. We are non-profit and collectively put hundreds of hours of work into every issue we publish.
Any contribution you can make to takahē is of huge value. 100% of your contribution goes to paying artists and writers. Thank you so much for your support.
