Jane Simpson

Jane Simpson is a poet, historian, tutor and editor, based in Christchurch. Her first full-length collection, A world without maps, was published in 2016 by Interactive Publications (Brisbane). She has recently completed work on a second collection.

 

‘Feminine construct’ draws on: feminist theology, history as a subversive activity, and living in a state of eternal rebuild in post-quake Christchurch.

Its workings mysterious tracings,

criss-cross movements

 

of nuns in action with

steel-capped boots, needle

 

and thread. Their prayers

string underwires, take in the slack,

 

stretching round the copious

breast of God.
