The Old Nurse
A sole pole on top a hill, a pleated cable
swooping up, shimmer slopes below
wind across the yellow wheat, in my youth
and beauty, bad balanced good, and time when
a shift in leaves the present breath of God,
hardships intervened, pills for tension, a
white for night, what had I become, and
slink of years – the half weeks and same rewards
(found vein, a crisp fold, a staff drink) – and
bended now, rags of age, a pension.
