Reade Moore

Despite being told by Cliff Fell over six years ago that she should have been a poet, Reade Moore is only now starting to think he may have been right. Her work has previously appeared in takahē and Poetry NZ

Fragments are delightfully mysterious. I savour the possibilities in Sappho, in ripped columns of newspaper, in a scribbled note glued to the back of a photograph. Each fragment is a tiny sliver of new, endlessly complex life.

Are you not just a song
sung by others?
You follow so closely
on their heels,
the pavement is still warm
with their footsteps.
