2008 Takahe CULTURAL STUDIES COMPETITION
Takahe, with the support of CNZ, is delighted to announce the 2008 Cultural Studies Competition to be judged by Brenda Allen (Auckland) and Rudolf Boelee (Christchurch). First prize of nz$250.00, and four co-equal prizes of one year's free subscriptions to Takahe. Closing Date: 30 September 2008. Results will be posted out in December 2008.
This is an opportunity for students and established writers/commentators to contribute a 'window', a critical reflection of our shared world.
Format (a): Written essay on any topic: minimum 2,000 words (and may include black and white illustrations).
Format (b): Visual arts essay: should include an artist's statement or interview with an artist of approx. 1,000 words and may include four colour images (suitable for reproduction).
Format (c): A portion of creative writing in progress.
Submissions to be typed on A4 paper. Author's name or nom de plume must not appear on the manuscript. Copyright will remain with author. All entries will be considered for publication in Takahe.
Each submission to be accompanied by a nz$5 entry fee, a separate sheet giving author's name and address,and a stamped, addressed envelope for return of results and/or entry/entries. Overseas entrants can either send an International Reply Coupon with their addressed envelope, or add nz$2 to their total entry fee for handling and postage. A single SAE or substitute will suffice for multiple entries.

Conditions of Entry:
- Each entry must be the original work of the person submitting it; entries must not have been previously published, or broadcast, and must not be submitted elsewhere for any competition, or for publication in any form, until after the announcement of the results of this competition.
- All entries must be in English
- Entrants may submit as many poems as they wish, but each must be named separately on the entry form (photocopies or down-loads acceptable ).
- Each poem must be accompanied by a nz$5 entry fee, and a stamped, addressed envelope for return of results and/or entry/entries.
